Request for Proposal: TOMS Giving Program

Thank you for your interest in the TOMS Shoes Giving Program. With every pair a customer purchases, TOMS will give a pair of new shoes to a child in need.

Through our shoe-giving program, we work with NGOs and humanitarian organizations around the world, and their respective local partners, to distribute shoes to children (18 years of age or younger) they already support in some way, be it through housing, education, health, or other support services. The shoes are intended to serve children who need them for disease prevention, access to education, and basic quality of life.

Criteria for partnerships
TOMS looks for Giving Partners that have the reputation and capacity to handle large-volume shoe distribution over a multi-year partnership. We expect our Giving Partners to be the experts on the ground, and to ensure that our shoes are given responsibly and in a way that has high positive impacts. Baseline criteria include:

1.Repeat giving: The Giving Partner must be willing and able to work with TOMS in a multi-year partnership, providing shoes to the same children as they grow. TOMS can replenish shoes as often as field conditions require – this usually ranges from every 6 months to every 12 months.

2.Large volume: Most of TOMS’ donated shoes are shipped in 20'to 40’ containers, which hold about 17,000 to 33,000 pairs of shoes each. Partners must be able to responsibly accept, store, and distribute this volume of shoes to children on whom shoes will have a significant impact. We are open to two or more organizations coordinating amongst themselves to share a container.

3.High impact: Shoes should help the Giving Partner achieve its existing goals, whether they are increased health and well being, disease prevention or eradication, or school attendance.

4.Responsible giving: Partners should work with us to mitigate negative consequences of shoe-giving, including impacts on local shoe-making or shoe-selling economies, as well as considering stigma and other social-behavioral impacts of giving shoes to children.

5.TOMS Shoes is a non-political, non-religious for profit business with a sustainable giving model. While we are happy to work with organizations from all religious and political backgrounds, we prohibit the giving of our shoes from being associated with any religious or political ideology.

Applying to TOMS Shoe-Giving Program
If your organization wishes to provide shoes for children (18 years of age and younger) who are already supported by your program, please read the following description of the RFP processes and requirements.

Applying to partner with TOMS is a two-stage process. The online application is the first stage and is intended to determine whether your organization meets the minimum eligibility requirements for shoe donations. The second stage, open to organizations that meet minimum eligibility requirements, is a longer proposal that requires demonstration of the specific impact shoes will have on the children you serve, a description of the programs the shoes will serve, as well as details and the organizational capacity of on-the-ground partners that will distribute the shoes responsibly and report outcomes and impacts to TOMS.

Please provide an application for each country you propose to distribute shoes in.

Please note that completion of the application does not guarantee a donation of shoes.
